If you are looking for an adult psychologist in Pymble, you may be at a point where something needs to change but you are not yet sure what that looks like or where to start.
At Cadence Psychology, we work with adults across Pymble and the Upper North Shore who are living demanding lives and finding that the usual strategies for coping are no longer enough. Our approach is structured, practical, and grounded in methods that have a strong evidence base — without being clinical or detached.
You do not need a referral to make an appointment. Sessions are available in person at our Pymble clinic and via telehealth.
Who We Work With
Our adult psychology clients in Pymble include:
– Professionals managing high-pressure careers alongside personal responsibilities
– Adults experiencing persistent anxiety or low mood that is beginning to interfere with daily life
– People going through significant life transitions — career changes, relationship breakdown, parenting challenges, or loss
– Adults recently diagnosed with ADHD, or who suspect they may have undiagnosed ADHD
– Individuals who have tried to manage on their own and are ready for structured support
You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from seeing a psychologist. Many of the people we work with are highly functional but are aware something is not right and want to address it before it escalates.
Common Issues We Treat at Our Pymble Clinic
Anxiety & Chronic Stress
Anxiety is one of the most common reasons adults seek psychological support. This includes generalised anxiety disorder (persistent worry across multiple areas of life), social anxiety, panic disorder, and health anxiety. Therapy helps identify the patterns driving anxiety and build more effective responses — not just manage symptoms.
Depression & Low Mood
Depression can look very different from person to person. Some people experience obvious low mood and withdrawal; others continue to function but feel flat, unmotivated, or disconnected from meaning. Our Pymble psychologists work with both presentations.
Workplace Burnout
Burnout is particularly common among professionals in demanding roles across the North Shore and Sydney CBD. It is not simply being tired; it involves emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and a reduced sense of efficacy. We use structured approaches to help you recover and build a more sustainable way of working.
Adult ADHD
Many adults reach their thirties, forties, or beyond before realising their struggles with focus, organisation, time management, or emotional regulation may be related to ADHD. We offer both assessment pathways and ongoing therapeutic support for adults navigating ADHD.
Perfectionism & High Self-Pressure
High-achieving adults on the Upper North Shore often carry significant self-imposed pressure. This can manifest as procrastination, imposter syndrome, difficulty delegating, or chronic dissatisfaction despite external success. These are addressable perfectionism patterns, not fixed personality traits.
Grief & Loss
Bereavement, the end of significant relationships, and other forms of loss deserve proper support. Grief does not follow a timeline, and therapy provides a structured space to process it without pressure.
Life Transitions
Career pivots, parenthood, separation, moving, ageing parents; major life changes often surface unresolved issues or create new ones. Psychological support during transitions can be one of the highest-value investments in your wellbeing.
Our Approach to Adult Therapy
There is no single therapy model that works for everyone. We draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, selecting and combining them based on what will be most effective for your specific situation and goals.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
A structured, practical approach that works with the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Highly effective for anxiety, depression, and performance-related concerns.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
A values-based approach that builds psychological flexibility, helping you respond to difficult thoughts and feelings with clarity rather than avoidance or reactivity.
Schema Therapy
Particularly useful for long-standing patterns that seem to repeat across relationships and situations. Works at a deeper level than CBT alone.
Mindfulness-Based Approaches
Integrated into sessions where appropriate to support self-awareness, stress regulation, and present-moment functioning.
Our psychologists do not apply a rigid formula. Your therapy will be tailored to your goals, your history, and your preferences about how you want to work.

What to Expect From Adult Psychology in Pymble
First Session
Your initial appointment is a conversation – not a test or an assessment you can pass or fail. Your psychologist will ask about your current situation, what has brought you in, and what you are hoping to achieve. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and decide whether you feel comfortable continuing.
Ongoing Sessions
Sessions typically run 50 minutes. After your first appointment, your psychologist will recommend a treatment approach and a rough frequency of sessions. Most clients attend weekly or fortnightly, depending on their needs and schedule.
How Long Does Therapy Take?
This varies considerably depending on the issue and the individual. Some people find significant value in 6-8 focused sessions. Others benefit from longer-term work. Your psychologist will discuss this with you and review progress regularly.
Confidentiality
Everything discussed in sessions is confidential, subject to professional and legal obligations that your psychologist will explain at your first appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Starting therapy is a big step, and it’s natural to have questions. We believe in providing clarity so you feel confident and comfortable from the very beginning.
-
I'm not sure if my problem is serious enough for a psychologist. Should I book?
Yes. Psychological support is not reserved for crisis situations. Many people find it most valuable when they seek help before difficulties become entrenched. If something is affecting your quality of life, it is worth a conversation.
-
Can I book an appointment without seeing a GP first?
Yes. You can book directly. You only need a GP referral if you want to claim Medicare rebates through a Mental Health Treatment Plan.
-
What if I have tried therapy before and it didn't help?
This is common. A previous experience that was not helpful does not mean therapy will not work — it often reflects a mismatch of approach, timing, or therapeutic relationship. We take the time to understand what has and hasn't worked for you before.
-
How long does a session last?
A standard therapy session is 50 minutes long. This allows enough time to explore your concerns in-depth and build on the strategies discussed.
-
How often will I need to attend?
This is a collaborative decision that we'll make together. While weekly sessions are most common at the start of therapy to build momentum, we will tailor the frequency to your individual needs and goals.
-
Do you offer sessions before or after work hours?
Yes, Elizabeth is available for sessions starting from 7am on Mondays.
-
Do you bulk bill?
Cadence Psychology does not provide bulk-billing services.
